Algebra 1    (min: 5, max: 12)

We will be using the Saxon incremental/spiral approach to learning math. Concepts are taught in small increments and are continually repeated to reinforce the skills learned. We will be learning topics normally encountered in an Algebra 1 class, plus some geometry concepts. This is a rigorous, honors-level course; we will complete the whole book by the end of spring semester. After taking Saxon Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Advanced Mathematics, students will have completed 1 credit for Geometry.

Required Texts: Saxon Algebra 1 Home Study Kit, 3rd Edition (student text, answer key, and test booklet). ISBN: 978-1565771239. Available at Christianbook.com or RainbowResource.com (~$70). The Solutions Manual is NOT needed.  Course cost will be $350 .

Algebra 2    (min: 5, max: 12)

We will be learning topics typically encountered in an Algebra 2 class, plus some geometry concepts using Saxon’s incremental/spiral approach -- concepts are taught in small increments and are continually repeated to reinforce the skills learned. This is a rigorous, honors-level course; we will complete the whole book by the end of spring semester. After completing Saxon Algebra 2, students will have earned ½ credit for Geometry, in addition 1 credit for Algebra 2.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra 1.

Required Texts: Saxon Algebra 2 Home Study Kit, 3rd Edition (student text, answer key, and test booklet). ISBN: 978-1600320163. Available at Christianbook.com or RainbowResource.com (~$70). The Solutions Manual is NOT needed.

A TI-83 or 84 graphing calculator is recommended, especially if the student is planning to take Advanced Mathematics. Ed McKay Bookstore in Greensboro usually has used TI-84 calculators on sale for about half the price as new.  Course cost will be $350.

Advanced Mathematics (Pre-calculus)         (min: 5, max: 12)

We will be incorporating Saxon’s incremental/spiral approach to learning math -- concepts are taught in small increments and are continually repeated to reinforce the skills learned. This is a rigorous, honors-level course; we will complete the whole book by the end of spring semester. After completing Advanced Mathematics, students will have completed ½ credit for Geometry, in addition to 1 credit for Pre-calculus.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra 2.
