Spanish 1 (min. 4, max 12)
This class is geared toward those who have never taken a Spanish course before. By the end of the year, students will have a basic understanding of many grammar concepts, and a wide range of useful vocabulary. They will also have had practice in reading comprehension, pronunciation, and conversation. Material to be covered includes Units I-III in the Bregstein textbook (Chapters 1-15). Some topics: nouns, articles, adjectives, regular/irregular verbs, object pronouns, reflexive verbs, and the present subjective; and the preterit and imperfect tenses. Required text: Complete Spanish Step-by-Step, Barbara Bregstein. ISBN: 9781259643415. Additional materials such as news articles, short stories or youtube videos will be assigned throughout the year. The cost of the course is $350 with a $25 supply fee.
Spanish 2 (min 4, max 12)
This class is geared toward those who have studied Spanish before, and already have a basic understanding of topics covered in Spanish 1 (see Spanish 1 course description and table of contents in Bregstein book). We will begin the year with plenty of review to ensure that everyone is on the same page, considering that some may have studied Spanish 1 with a different curriculum. By the end of Spanish 2 students will have a deeper understanding of the language, and many more tools useful in writing, oral presentation, and conversation. Material to be covered includes Units IV-VI in the Bregstein textbook (chapters 16-30). Some topics: present and past progressive tense, present and past perfect tenses, future and conditional tenses, and past subjunctive. See table of contents for complete list of subject material.
